In honor of Grandparents Day coming up on September 11, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) studied and discovered the top five reasons cruises would be the best option for a multigenerational vacation. The number one reason CLIA found cruises to be the most viable option for multigenerational family travel was the amenities available for all ages.
In addition to age-friendly amenities, cruising offers flexible travel, independent exploration, worldly opportunities, and best return on experience, all of which make cruising one of the easiest trips for a family to plan and enjoy, says CLIA.
According to The Family Travel Alliance, the demand for family-friendly travel is one of the fastest-growing markets in the tourism industry, and is responsible for more than a third of all leisure vacations.
In terms of amenities, there are no shortages onboard cruise ships that are suitable for travelers of all ages and generations. Adventurous grandparents can join their grandchildren in a surf simulator or an indoor skydiving experience with their families. For a more relaxing environment, families can take scenic tours of historic landmarks. If parents and grandparents need some alone time, most cruise ships offer children’s programs, teen clubs and organized, supervised activities allowing adults and children alike to enjoy whatever they please.
CLIA believes that especially with the help of a travel agent, cruise vacations offer low-stress and flexible vacation options for grandparents traveling with families. When choosing a ship, travelers should remember to choose the ship best suited for their travel companions and ships that offer the opportunity for groups and individuals to do as much or as little as they’d like.
In addition, CLIA said that cruising is optimal for families because it offers an all-in-one opportunity to see the world. With thousands of destinations worldwide on a number of cruise lines, all families have to do is decide what ship and destination are right for them, then the cruise line takes care of the rest.
