6 Walt Disney World Dining Changes ALL Guests Should Be Aware Of (July 2016)

Though it may not initially seem like it, Walt Disney World has truly come into its own in recent years as a real food lover’s paradise. If you count yourself as one of the many who love eating their way around the Walt Disney World parks and resorts, there are some big changes taking effect right now and very soon that you should know about.

For July’s Walt Disney World dining update, we take a look at a new, low cost option for those who want to experience the newest restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a new deal is announced for fans of Walt Disney World’s most popular snack, plus reservations are now available for a number of holiday upcharge events at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

1. Tiffins introduces lower cost options for lunchtime diners

Guests have come to expect high prices from signature restaurants at Walt Disney World, but when Tiffins burst on the scene earlier this year, many said that even for a signature dining experience, the cost of a meal at this dining location was too much, with many guests opting to either eat at Yak & Yeti or one of the surprisingly excellent quick service eateries around Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

However, if you still want to get a taste of Tiffins without breaking the bank, Disney has introduced a lower cost way to do so via a new Light Bites menu and Taste of Tiffins option. The Light Bites menu includes appetizer favorites like lobster-popcorn Thai curry soup and archaeologist salad, which each cost less than $15.00.

Guests who are a little bit hungrier may want to indulge in the Taste of Tiffins menu, where guests can choose two items, paired with a Jade Blend Rice for the flat price of $28.00 per guest (not including drink). Choices on this new menu include the following:

  • Flash-fried Icy Blue Mussels
  • Black-Eyed Pea Fritters
  • Crispy Yellowtail Snapper
  • Sustainable Seasonal Fish Crudo
  • 72-Hour Beef Short Rib
  • Salad of Roasted Baby Beets
  • Market Vegetable Curry
  • Marinated Grilled Octopus
  • Chermoula Rubbed Chicken
  • Masa and Pulled Pork Tamale

Though the regular Tiffins menu continues to be available for both lunch and dinner, guests who want to try the Light Bites or Taste of Tifins menu will need to stop by this eatery between 11:30am to 3:30pm.

2. Refillable popcorn buckets now available around Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World guests are now able to purchase a special refillable souvenir popcorn bucket for $10 and enjoy $1.50 refills for the remainder of their day in the park. Though this promotion is being advertised as lasting for a single day only, guests who have taken advantage of this deal have reported being able to get $1.50 refills during the length of their Walt Disney World visit. This new snack promotion is expected to last at least through the rest of the summer.

3. Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory food court closing next week for lengthy refurbishment

The Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory food court at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort French Quarter is closing in just a few days on July 11th for a major refurbishment and will reopen later this fall (a specific reopening date has not yet been confirmed).

Because this refurbishment is expected to last for several months, hungry diners at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort French Quarter will be able to visit the new Scat Cat’s Lounge, which is a temporary dining location that can be found near the lobby. This pop up dining location will serve a number of familiar menu items, including jambalaya, gumbo, po-boy sandwiches, beignets, other hot and cold entrees as well as grab and go items, similar to what was offered at the Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory food court.

However, if guests would still prefer to sit down in a traditional quick service eating area, a special dedicated bus that will take hungry diners to the Riverside Mill Food Court at the neighboring Port Orleans Resort – Riverside will also be running daily from from 7:00 AM until midnight during this extensive refurbishment.
