8 Dining Changes Happening Now at Walt Disney World (March 2017)

Though it may not initially seem like it, Walt Disney World has truly come into its own in recent years as a real food lover’s paradise. If you count yourself as one of the many who love eating their way around the Walt Disney World parks and resorts, there are some big changes taking effect right now you should know about.

For March’s Walt Disney World dining update, we get our first look at some of the “alien” cuisine that can be found inside Pandora – The World of Avatar, new menu items debut at the Magic Kingdom, plus a pop-up dining location hits Fort Wilderness. But first, let’s look at a new price hike that has recently taken effect…

1. Prices for the Disney Dining Plan go up

Image: Disney

Though fans debate endlessly about whether or not the Disney Dining Plan is “worth it” Disney has released new pricing for the Disney Dining Plan, effective immediately. Here’s a breakdown of the new per-night prices for un-discounted dining plans:

Quick Service Plan

  • Adult – $48.19 (up from $46.34)
  • Child – $21.00 (up from $20.18)

Regular Dining Plan

  • Adult – $69.35 (up from $67.33)
  • Child – $24.95 (up from $24.22)

Deluxe Dining Plan

  • Adult – $106.68 (up from $103.57)
  • Child – $38.75 (up from $37.62)

As you can see, these price hikes aren’t exactly that massive, with most plans increasing by $1 – $3. However, if you are a family of four spending a week at Walt Disney World, these little increases can add up quickly, costing this hypothetical family (potentially) over a hundred dollars more if they go with the deluxe plan.

2. New Joffrey’s coffee kiosk now open at Magic Kingdom

Earlier this month, the Magic Kingdom added another Joffrey’s Coffee kiosk near Space Mountain in Tomorrowland. This new “revive” kiosk will offer all of the coffee drinks Disney fans have come to know and love as well as a beverage exclusive to Magic Kingdom: the More S’mores Latte. This beverage can be served hot or iced and is made with artisan roasted espresso mixed with rich chocolate sauce, sweet marshmallow syrup, and topped with whipped cream, graham cracker sprinkles, and fluffy marshmallows.

3. Disney releases first glimpse of “alien” food at Pandora – The World of Avatar

One of the components of Pandora – The World of Avatar that we’re most excited to experience is the local cuisine! This new land will have two dining establishments; Satu’li Canteen, which will be a “fast causual” dining establishment open for lunch and dinner, and Pongu Pongu, which will be a watering hole with drinks and small plates.

While full menus have not yet been released, we do know that Satu’li Canteen will have plenty of “healthy” dishes that feature wholesome grains, fresh vegetables and hearty proteins that have an “otherworldly” look to them, as you can see above.

Fare at Pongu Pongu should look a little more familiar, especially as much of the menu will consist of libations with familiar ingredients. However, there will be a very interesting snack at this location: Lumpia, a crispy pineapple-cream cheese spring roll, which is pictured above.

4. Fantasmic! breakfast dining packages now available

One of the easiest ways to to secure a guaranteed viewing spot for Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is to book Fantasmic! Dining Package. Previously, this package has only included Lunch and Dinner at Hollywood & Vine, but Disney has quietly begun including breakfast for this package as well, effective immediately.

5. New food truck debuts at Fort Wilderness

Disney has been expanding its food truck offerings recently, and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground has now introduced one of its own, the aptly-named Chuck Wagon! This new food truck is serving 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM Saturdays through Mondays, and from 5:00 – 9:00 PM Tuesdays through Fridays, and serves hearty fare, including a Smoked Pork Belly Tillamook Cheeseburger, Smoked Beef Brisket Sandwich, and even the vegetarian-friendly Roasted Portobello and Vegetable Wrap.

6. Sunday roast now available at Rose and Crown

Earlier this month, a traditional British favorite, the Sunday Roast, was added to the menu at the Rose & Crown Dining Room at Epcot. This traditional British meal will only be served on Sunday and will alternate weekly among Roasted Pork, Turkey or Lamb with Mint Sauce. Customary sides such as roasted potatoes, peas and carrots, sage and onion stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy will accompany the roast.

7. New premium tea tour debuts for the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival

Elsewhere in the UK pavilion at Epcot, Disney has announced that in addition to the standard Tea Garden Tour that has historically been a part of the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival for the last decade, a new “premium” version of this tour is now available for $15 per guest.

This special experience expands the general tea tour experience to 45-minutes and includes a special post-tour refreshment of scones with Earl Grey butter, clotted cream and jam, and, tea. This new tour is offered daily at 9:45 AM (before the World Showcase opens) and can only be booked by calling 407-WDW-TOUR.

Main Street USA mainstay Casey’s Corner announced earlier this year that they would have a rotating menu in 2017 and now that March is here, this quick service dining location has debuted a new Asian-inspired hot dog for the month that is topped with coleslaw, sweet chili sauce and crunchy eggroll strips. As with previous limited-time menu items, this new hot dog is only available through the end of the month.
