Though it may not initially seem like it, Walt Disney World has truly come into its own in recent years as a real food lover’s paradise. If you count yourself as one of the many who love eating their way around the Walt Disney World parks and resorts, there are some big changes taking effect right now and very soon that you should know about.
For this month’s Walt Disney World dining update, we take a look at a number of new menu items coming to the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot, a limited-time test happening at one of the All-Star Music resort, plus some big changes coming to a relatively new dining establishment at Disney Springs that some have criticized as too expensive.
1. The Sweet and Spicy Chicken Sandwich returns to the Magic Kingdom
Sleepy Hollow Refreshments has long been considered by Magic Kingdom fans as one of the best hidden gems at this park, but many fans were disappointed when last Feburary, one of the most popular offerings, the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich, was unceremoniously removed from the menu with no explanation. However, fans were quite vocal about their disappointment regarding this development, and in a surprising move, Disney has reinstated this favorite menu item eight months after its removal. And now that this menu item has returned, here’s hoping the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich sticks around for good this time!
2. Souvenir Haunted Mansion tiki glasses now available at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto
Just a few days after fans at the Disneyland Resort swarmed the Enchanted Tiki Bat at Disneyland Hotel to get a special, limited release Tiki Mugs that features the Haunted Mansion’s Hitchhiking Ghosts, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Resort announced that they too would also be selling these unique mugs as well. However, instead of selling the entire stock at once, these special mugs will be limited to 200 units sold per night at this location, and each guests may only purchase a single mug per day.
3. L’artisan des Glaces brings back Pumpkin Spice Macaron Sandwich for fall
If you can’t get enough of pumpkin spice season, the ultimate version of this indulgence has returned to the France pavilion at L’Artisan des Glaces just in time for Halloween. The Pumpkin Spice Macaron is a seasonal specialty that features creamy house-made pumpkin spice ice cream sandwiched in between two sinfully sweet and chewy macarons. This seasonal item will be available through the end of the month and costs $3.99.
4. New seasonal cupcake now available at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
And speaking of seasonal treats, a few days ago Disney’s Hollywood Studios introduced a new limited-time cupcake that will help guests celebrate the fall season. This festive cupcake features a carrot cake base with an orange-flavored frosting, topped with a white chocolate Jack Skellington as well as chocolate shavings and sprinkles. This new treat is available at the Sunset Ranch Market, ABC Commissary, as well as the Starring Rolls Cafe.
5. New discounts on dining now available for Walt Disney World annual passholders
As part of the 45th anniversary celebrations earlier this month it was announced that effective immediately annual passholders now receive 10% off food and nonalcoholic beverages at table service restaurants at both Walt Disney World Theme Parks as well as Disney resort hotels. In addition, Disney is offering a 20% dining discount at 45 popular table service and quick service restaurants around the resort, including The Hollywood Brown Derby, Tiffins, and Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen. You can see the full list of participating restaurants here.
6. New grab ‘n’ go dining test happening at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort
Disney’s All-Star Music Resort will be testing a new grab-and-go concept at the hotel beginning Monday, October 10 which will allow guests guests staying at this hotel to purchase ready made food items like bakery treats and beverages from 8:00 AM to noon daily at the Melody Hall’s concierge desk. It is unknown how long this test will go on for.
7. Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare gets a small price hike
Earlier this week the price for the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast dining experience at 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort will increase to $34 for adults and $20 for children, up $4 and $5, respectively from its previous price point. This character dining experience allows guests to meet fan favorites like Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, The Mad Hatter, Tigger, and Winnie the Pooh while enjoying a breakfast buffet that includes custom-made omelets, mini pancakes, Mickey-shaped waffles, a carving station, and more.
8. STK to see substantial changes in the near future
Finally in this month’s update, we have some interesting news out of Disney Springs. Though this shopping district’s new STK restaurant has only been open for a few months, the restaurant has already announced plans to make substantial changes in the near future, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Among the changes being made are a new, downsized menu with less expensive steak options as well as new exterior signage. STK management is also considering the addition of an outside hostess stand to increase walkups to this upscale dining establishment. No firm date has been given for when these changes might take effect.
While unconfirmed, these changes are reportedly being made in response to sluggish traffic at this dining location in its early days. Management isn’t quite sure whether this eatery’s lackluster performance is due to STK’s out of the way location, high prices, or guests’ unfamiliarity with the brand, but it looks like they are at least being proactive about the situation and are attempting to remedy this restaurant’s early issues as soon as possible. This isn’t the first time a restaurant has struggled early on (The Boathouse has similar issues when it opened last year), but hopefully with just a few tweaks STK will be back on the road to success.
