Mean Streak at the end of this season.Cedar Point announced this morning that it will close
The world’s tallest and longest wooden roller coaster when it opened in 1991, this Curtis D. Summers, Inc. creation has carried more than 26 million riders over the past quarter century, according to the park. Cedar Point will celebrate the demise of the coaster on the opening night of HalloWeekends, on Sept. 16, with a final public riding session between 6-7pm. The park will administer “last rites” for the coaster in a memorial session at 7:30, followed by a procession from FrontierTown to the park’s “Dead Rides Cemetery.”
If you can’t make it to the ride’s final weeks, or even if you can, you can enjoy one more virtual ride on Mean Streak with its official POV video:
Halloween might turn out be an especially appropriate time to commemorate Mean Streak, because the word on the street is that the coaster might not be as dead as it seems. Could Mean Streak get a rebuild from Rocky Mountain Construction, as so many classic wooden coasters have over the past years? Cedar Point isn’t announcing anything about Mean Streak’s replacement just yet.
