The Canaveral Port Authority is inviting its community to join in a Sail-a-Bration at Jetty Park on November 13 to say goodbye to Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas as it departs for its maiden voyage out of the ship’s new home at Port Canaveral. The celebration will take place between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m.
The 225,000 gross ton vessel will arrive at its new berth in Port Canaveral on November 5, 2016, a week prior to the ship’s first departure with passengers. The Cruise 1 Terminal, which opened in December 2014, was designed specifically to accommodate Oasis-class ships. The 188,000 square foot terminal and 1,007-vehicle parking facility cost $104.6 million to develop. The Oasis of the Seas, which carries 5,400 passengers double occupancy, will replace the 3,634 passenger Freedom of the Seas at Port Canaveral.
“Our community has been excited about Oasis of the Seas since Royal Caribbean International made the announcement,” said Port Canaveral CEO John Murray. “And we have been busy readying ourselves for the increase in passengers by working with our ground transportation and other partners to make this transition to our next level of cruising as smooth as possible for the cruise line and their guests.”
The Sail-a-Bration, which is free for admission, will have a variety of entertainment, giveaways and family fun. The Port Authority asks guests bring a non-perishable food item as a donation to the Sharing Center of Central Florida.
