Rain, Snow on Tap for New Year’s Travel

Travelers looking to take a trip or attend an outdoor party this New Year’s Eve weekend will have some foul weather to contend with.

In New England, a winter storm could cause blizzard conditions, while areas farther south could get hit with a wintry mix, sparking travel delays for airlines and on highways Thursday into Friday, Accuweather reports. Snowfall in New England could range from 12 to 18 inches, with mountain areas in New Hampshire facing the possibility of up to two feet of snow. An area ranging from northeastern Pennsylvania and the lower Hudson Valley to coastal Maine and Nova Scotia could be in for a combination of rain and snow.

At New York City’s famous Times Square celebration, revelers could be in for cold conditions, according to Accuweather, with evening temperatures forecast to be in the mid-30s, or the upper 20s to lower 30s when factoring in wind chill. While the air will be mostly dry, there is the possibility that the city could get a late rain or snow shower.

New Year’s Eve celebrations in New Orleans and Los Angeles could also have to contend with rain and snow, Accuweather reports. A storm could bring rain or snow to celebrations in Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, San Diego and Los Angeles. Another storm bringing rain to an area ranging from Louisiana into Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky could hit celebrations in New Orleans and Nashville
