MSC Cruises’ latest MSC Seaside is that much closer to sailing roundtrip from Miami, Florida come December 2017 now that the vessel has been floated out at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. Additionally today, its new year-round PortMiami home of Terminal F just broke ground on its renovation and enhancement project.
To get a sense for how both the new ship’s construction has come along since keel laying and what its future Florida facility will look like, MSC Cruises has released a video, hosted at my Popular Cruising YouTube channel and embedded below.
With only a little over a year out before the MSC Seaside sets sail in the Caribbean, its float-out represents a major development in building and preparing the new ship for the market. Along with the MSC Meraviglia, the cruise line has two new ships coming out this year between June and December 2017.
“This is another exciting milestone in our ambitious expansion plans as we see the second of our 11 next-generation cruise ships entering the final stages of her construction,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, MSC Cruises’ Executive Chairman. “MSC Seaside has been specifically designed to provide our guests with a unique onboard experience in warmer regions and boasts one the highest ratios of outdoor space in the industry so that guests can enjoy a range of open-air activities such as dining and drinking al fresco, strolling along the promenade or simply taking in the beautiful sea views from the privacy of one of the many balcony staterooms.”
MSC Seaside is a prototype design that will feature a full ocean-level wraparound promenade, panoramic glass elevators and a 98-foot upper deck bridge. Plus, 73 percent of the cabins will have private verandas.
Vago added, “We are delighted with the strength of sales for MSC Seaside so far, from both American and European guests alike. The Caribbean continues to be an ever popular destination for travelers. With the addition of MSC Seaside, we are further strengthening our ability to serve this demand in this key region with five cruise ships for the winter 2017/18 season, each bringing our own, distinctive Mediterranean flair and elegance to the Caribbean vacation experience.”
To that end, the ship will also showcase the line’s signature ship-within-a-ship concept of the MSC Yacht Club, eleven dining venues including Pan-Asian cuisine from celebrity chef Roy Yamaguchi and activities and entertainment encompassing a 934-seat theater, interactive aqua park with fours slides and a 394-foot-long zip-line.
Meanwhile, Terminal F at PortMiami is now on its way to accepting the new ship next year as the port is beginning its improvements and expansion. This will facilitate not only the new MSC Seaside but also the MSC Divina currently sailing year-round from Florida.
“This is a very exciting time for MSC Cruises as we continue our expansion in the North American market. From working together with Miami-Dade County to provide a truly world-class experience for cruisers at Terminal F to committing our second and most innovative ship yet to the U.S. market, we are thrilled for the road ahead,” said Roberto Fusaro, president of MSC Cruises USA. “Today, as we break ground on MSC Seaside’s and MSC Divina’s new home, we are extremely proud to celebrate our ongoing commitment to better serving our guests.”
Among the enhancements coming to Terminal F are the following:
~ An expanded waiting area for up to 1,500 seated guests
~ An enhanced VIP private waiting area for MSC Yacht Club guests
~ A dedicated waiting area for MSC Black Card members and guests reserved in the Aurea Experience
~ An improved disembarkation infrastructure with a more efficient baggage claim area
~ Overall embarkation and disembarkation smart ship technology extended pier-side
