Though it may not initially seem like it, Walt Disney World has truly come into its own in recent years as a real food lover’s paradise. If you count yourself as one of the many who love eating their way around the Walt Disney World parks and resorts, there are some big changes taking effect right now you should know about.
For August’s dining update, we take a look at a sweet new treat now available at Disney Springs, a brand new Italian restaurant “concept” that will be opening this fall, plus a fun option for Fantasmic dining is announced!
1. New Italian restaurant Maria and Enzo coming to Disney Springs as part of The Edison complex
Disney has announced that a new Italian concept named Maria & Enzo will be coming to Disney Springs later this year. This new location is from the Patina Restaurant Group, who you may recognize as the name behind Walt Disney World favorites like Morimoto Asia, Tutto Italia and Via Napoli. This new Italian restaurant will have a bar area as well as a fast-casual dining area, and will look like a repurposed airline terminal with an underground rum running tunnel right next to The Edison, which itself is supposed to look like a run-down electrical power plant. Maria & Enzo’s is planned to open by the end of this year or early 2018.
2. Wine slushy now available at Amorette’s
Though summer is drawing to a close, temperatures at Walt Disney World remain high, and Disney Springs shop Amorette’s Patisserie has announced a brand new adults-only treat just in the nick of time: a Wine slushy! It is unknown if this is a limited time offering or a permanent offering at this location, but if you are over 21 and feeling a bit parched this fall, this is certainly a unique option!
3. New “printed” images can now be put on your Disney Springs coffee
It was recently announced that guests who drop by theTea Traders Café by Joffrey’s located in The Landing at Disney Springs can now order their favorite hot beverage with Disney-character inspired coffee art. This fun new option is possible thanks to Joffrey’s new “Ripple Maker” machine, which that uses proprietary technology to print edible toner (made of coffee dust) onto the top of any foamy beverage.
The “Ripple Maker” machine takes about 20 second to print, and is only currently in use at this specific Disney Springs location. Currently, 4 images can be printed onto your beverage – the Joffrey’s logo, the Disney Springs logo, Mickey Mouse, and Minnie Mouse. Adding this option to your drink will cost an extra 50 cents.
4. New Fantasmic! dessert package announced
Beginning September 8 2017, guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have an additional option for reserved seating at Fantasmic! with the new Fantasmic! Dessert & VIP Viewing Experience upcharge experience. Costing $39 per adult and $19 per child (ages 3 to 9), guests who purchase this add on will not only be able to enjoy reserved seating, but will also receive a number of trats to enjoy during the show, including chocolate-dipped strawberries, cheese and crackers and make-your-own “worms and dirt” pudding. Each guest also receives a light-up cup with a specialty drink (alcoholic optional for Guests 21 and older), along with a bottle of water.
5. The Baseline Tap House set to open in just a few weeks
The Baseline Tap House, which will be a brand new dining location inside the newly announced Grand Avenue area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be opening in just a few weeks in anticipation of 2017’s holiday crowds. This new watering hole is being described as a cheerful corner pub specializing in beer and wines from California. Disney has even created a bit of a backstory for this location, saying that Baseline Tap House celebrates the revitalization of Downtown Los Angeles by paying homage to the building’s former life as the Figueroa Printing Company, a mom-and-pop print house that had ties to the Disney studios in nearby Burbank.
The space retains many of its cool architectural and mechanical details with exposed walls and old printing equipment and artifacts, blending the past and present in an inviting space. Outside is a charming tree-shaded terrace, perfect for a relaxing break in the day.
As for the menu, the main attraction inside this location will be its vast lineup of drinks, including California craft ales, lagers and cider. California wines will also be on tap along with specialty cocktails. Though this location will primarily serve drinks, small bites will also be on offer, including a Bavarian pretzel with mustard and beer-cheese fondue, spiced almonds or a charcuterie board featuring California cheeses.
