Upcharge events are definitely the new normal at Walt Disney World, and this month has brought some interesting updates for guests looking to add a little something “extra” to their next trip to the resort. From the extension of a long-running nighttime event near the Magic Kingdom to new upcharge events at Fort Wilderness and Disney Springs, here are all the upcharge updates you need to know about!
1. Brand new Return to Sleepy Hollow event announced for Halloween
This Halloween season, Walt Disney World guests will be able to enjoy a spooky new event at the Fort Wilderness Resort that revolves around the 1937 animated film The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The event starts off with a screening of this movie at the Tri-Circle D Ranch and is then followed by a meet and greet with the Headless Horseman himself! Guests who attend this event will also be able to take home an exclusive limited edition pin.
This event will be available twice nightly at 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM on September 29th – 30th, Thursdays and Sundays in October, and on October 30th and 31st. The cost to attend will be $22 for general admission or $38 for “premium” admission, which includes seats in the first five rows, priority access to the Headless Horseman meet and greet, and a special Sleepy Hollow treat bag.
Reservations for the Return to Sleepy Hollow event are not currently available online, but can be made by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. Note: you do not need to be a guest of the Fort Wilderness Resort to make a reservation for this event.
2. Amorette’s Cake Decorating Experience at Amorette’s Patisserie
Amorette’s Patisserie has become one of the most-trafficked sweet spots in all of Walt Disney World, in large part because of its simply beautiful cakes and confections. And if you’ve always wanted to learn how to make goodies like those featured at this Disney Springs establishment, there is a new limited-time upcharge event taking place that will help you do just that!
Taking place Friday mornings (8:45 AM to 10:30 AM) from March 31 through May 5 2017, this upcharge experience costs $129 for 2 guests (10 or older) who are decorating a single cake. A second cake can be purchased for $40 for a second guest. During the 90 minute experience, guests will be able to gather in Amorette’s Show Kitchen before the shop officially opens for the day and learn how to pour glaçage and coat Mickey’s sculpted ears, tail, belt and buttons with edible paint as they create one of Amorette’s signature dome cakes.
Non-alcoholic and alcoholic refreshments are included in the cost of this experience, and guests can take their creation home once they are finished. Guests can also elect to keep their cake at Amorette’s Patisserie for pick up later in the day.
3. Celebration at the Top at the Contemporary extended until fall 2017
Though some have criticized Disney’s recent upcharge events as being a little over the top, it looks like the recent Celebration at the Top experience, which allows guests to see Wishes from a private observation deck at the top of the Contemporary Resort, has proved to be quite popular. As a result, this special dining experience, which was originally supposed to come to an end after this month, has been extended through September 24th, 2017, which means that guests who attend this event from May 12 onwards will be able to see the new Happily Ever After show (though they’ll miss the projection elements of this new show).
Celebration at the Top still costs $99 and includes not just a great viewing spot for Wishes, but also canapés, a selection of sushi, flatbreads and other small plates prior to showtime. Drinks, including craft beers, California wines, cordials and coffee will also be available before and during the display. Once the night’s fireworks are done, petit four desserts will be available for guests wanting one last “kiss goodnight” in the private banquet room.
4. Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine now available for Fantasmic dining package
Though news recently broke that the Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine will continue to be available for both breakfast and lunch, for those who still prefer to get a jump on their day with Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First and more, Disney has announced that Fantasmic! Dining Packages are now available for this breakfast character meal. Previously, Fantasmic! Dining Packages were only available for lunch or dinner options, but with this addition, guests have yet another choice if they want guaranteed seating for this show.
5. Entertainment details announced for Star Wars: Galactic Nights
Though it was announced earlier this year, Disney has released some new details regarding the entertainment that will be available during the upcoming Star Wars Galactic Nights special event. Vanessa Marshall, the voice of Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels (and former Star Wars Weekends guest), will serve as host of the Inside the Saga: Celebrity Talk Show, which will now take place at the Epic Theater with a special pre-show that will feature Star Wars Show hosts, Andi Gutierrez and Anthony Carboni. In addition, the new BB-8 character experience inside the Star Wars Launch Bay will debut at this event as well.
This special event will take place after park hours from 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM, and the cost to attend this event is $129 per adult ($124 per child). Costumes will be encouraged on this special night, and galactic-themed treats and merchandise will be available for purchase. You can read more about this event here.
