Disney sent out an email out to some employees recently saying the entertainment venue “will be operating into 2017, with no closing date to mention…We will be running the operation as normal until we hear otherwise.”
A Disney spokeswoman had nothing to add, except that the NBA Experience at Walt Disney World Resort is still planned at the site. There have been rumors on Disney blogs and websites that the basketball-themed attraction has fallen through.
An NBA spokeswoman could not be reached for comment.
Its closing was announced last year. Disney said at the time it would be replaced by the NBA-themed attraction that would include high-tech experiences, a restaurant and a store. No opening date was ever given for the NBA Experience.
Around the same time as the Disney announcement, the NBA also moved to close its themed restaurant at Universal Orlando’s CityWalk. The recently opened Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen has replaced it.
