Universal wants to widen part of Sand Lake Road amid talk of building new theme park
As reporting August 20, 2018 by The Orlando Sentinel by Dewayne Bevil:
Universal Orlando Resort is seeking to widen a roughly half-mile portion of Sand Lake Road north of the land it’s been acquiring.
The new permit application comes as the theme park operator is pursuing a major expansion in Orlando. Universal has acquired 575 acres around Universal Boulevard in the past two years.
In late July, company leaders confirmed they were looking at building a new park to join Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Island of Adventure as they spoke with analysts during a Comcast earnings call.
Universal filed a permit Monday with the South Florida Water Management District.
The application was still in the initial review as of Tuesday morning.
Universal did not immediately return a request for comment.
