We are always on the lookout for the world’s hidden gems – the best places to visit that are not yet buzzing with tourists. Here are some of our under-the-radar favorites for you to check out:
Granna, Sweden
This is an entire town dedicated to the art of candy making! Stroll cobblestone streets with colorful homes and stop in each store to watch the artisans make the famous polkagris candy. -Vanessa Parrish
Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic
Karlovy Vary is famous for its healing spas, but I think it is more memorable for its whimsical architecture. Every picture you take here could become a postcard – it’s just one of those towns that is so charming and impossible not to love! -Hayley Warner
Trujillo, Peru
I thought the Inca culture was a long time ago until I made my way to Trujillo. Trujillo is an amazing city in Northwestern Peru where both the Moche and Chimu cultures flourished between 100 AD to 1470. When you go to Trujillo, it’s a must that you visit the pre-Colombian monuments of Chan Chan, which is the largest adobe city in the ancient world and a UNESCO site, as well as the temples of the Sun and Moon – the largest adobe pyramid in Peru. -Jeff Russell
Paia, Maui, Hawaii
With sugar cane fields on one side and Maui’s North shore on the other, Paia provides visitors a glimpse of what an untouched Hawaii looked like in the mid-1900s. The town remains rustic – somewhat of a locals-only spot – only recently evolving to accommodate tourists. -Rick Warner
San Gimignano, Italy
In the heart of Tuscany, it seems like you’re stepping back in time hundreds of years to the Renaissance era – but with better wine! Easy to be inspired there – it is the kind of place that sticks with you forever. -Steve Born
Cairns, Australia
Cairns itself is a tropical, authentic, welcoming little coastal town in North Queensland. Known at the ‘Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef,’ the area is built on natural wonders – you can hike through the rainforest to the beach in Daintree National Park, then spend your afternoons diving the reef off of a catamaran. Top off your day with an Australian beer and barbeque on the beach and you’re in quintessential ‘Oz’! -Lindsey Everhart
